The Passing of Our Warrior

With deep sadness and a profound appreciation for his life, we share the news that Marshall Eddie Conway joined the ancestors on February 13, 2023. After a long illness and a valiant struggle to stay with us, he made his transition peacefully at the VA hospital in Long Beach, California, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Eddie spent his entire life working for the people. Although his early days with Baltimore’s Black Panther Party led to decades of wrongful imprisonment, his faith in the importance of the struggle and the beauty of the people remained undiminished. For the past nine years, until he became ill, Eddie lived life to the fullest—traveling the world, organizing in the community, mentoring youth, reporting for the Real News Network, listening to good music—and always feeding his beloved birds and squirrels, and enjoying his dogs, Chunky and Diego.

We will all miss Eddie’s quick wit, his thirst for truth, his intolerance of injustice, and, most of all, his big heart. A service will be held in Baltimore. We don’t have the details yet but we will share them as soon as possible. In that regard, please reach out to Natsu Saito instead of contacting family members. Thank you for sharing your love for our brother, father, grandfather, husband, and friend.
